Morocco has many beaches, but La Place Blanche is undoubtedly in the top 5 of the most special Moroccan beaches. Located near the city of Guelmim, south of Agadir (about 3h30 by car), La Plage Blanche is wild and very remote. It is also part of the Souss Massa National Park.
The white Beach (La Plage Blanche) is a vast expanse of sand over 40 km long. The sand is beige, with red reflections in some places. The beach is in fact an extension of the dunes of the Sahara. It faces the Canary Islands and is placed downwind. La Plage Blanche is therefore not a typical postcard beach. But if you want to take in the view, this is the beach for you.
We leave Agadir to head south and we will make a stop at the Souss Massa National Park to explore the coastal wilderness and fantastic bird-watching opportunities. The park covers the coastal strip of 65 km long and 5 km wide.
The Massa lagoon is one of the important bird sanctuaries in Morocco and a home to flamingoes, bald ibises, sandgrouse, cranes, ducks and many other resident and migratory birds. Later on, The picturesque road from Mirleft to Legzira and then further to Sidi Ifni goes through the mountains, then crosses the wide valleys. Legzira is only 10 km south of Mirleft on the rocky coast.
It is famous for its huge red-orange colored arches carved by the ocean in coastal cliffs. The place is still not particularly known to the general public, but well known among surfers and paragliders. A delicious lunch will be planned at the Amazing little beach village of Sidi Ouarzeg southern Sidi Ifni to then keep going south to reach the magical Place Blanche before the sunset.
At La Plage Blanche a well equipped beach camp will be set only for us with private comfortable tents, proper bathrooms and a delicious moroccan cuisine. Upon arrival you can climb some of the nearest dunes to watch an amazing sunset and once its dark we will all gather around a campfire playing and singing local music. Dinner will be served when everyone is hungry and the night will be spent under millions of stars.
Wake up early to admire the magical sunrise over the high sand dunes and the endless long beach, have breakfast back at the camp to then hit the road to Guelmim and more precisely to the amazing historical oasis of Tighmert.
Very close to the city of Guelmim, the capital of the Guelmim-Es-Smara region also called Goulimine, the oasis of Tighmert is one of the most beautiful oases in southern Morocco.
The oasis of Tighmert is a pure wonder of nature, it is located in the heart of the southern Saharan region, it exudes a special atmosphere that should not be missed and it displays for its visitors the great authentic history of this beautiful region, through the daily lifestyle of the inhabitants and the ancestral values of the famous “blue men”.
One of the oldest oases in southern Morocco, it has managed, over time, to conserve its inhabitants. In the past, the inhabitants were Bedouins who moved regularly, then they settled down and started farming. Since then, they have cultivated small plots, mainly food crops.
The Oasis of Tighmert is an exceptional place, with tall and marvelous palm trees. Tighmert is well known thanks also to its Kasbah “Caravanseral” which is located nearby. Nowadays this kasbah has a museum dedicated to Sahrawi nomads.
We discover a collection of several traditional objects used by the Saharaouis, acacia funnels, camel bra, copper mixers and pottery dating from the 17th century. You can also visit the Fask waterfalls, magnificent waterfalls on a canyon, a beautiful landscape among aquatic plants, an enchanting place.
We will plan for a lunch at the oasis of Tighmert and after lunch we will keep driving towards Agadir. If time allows we will stop by the city of TIZNIT to visit its old Medina and see the silver work the city is famous for to then reach Agadir late afternoon . End of your 2 days trip Agadir to La Plage Blanche .
